This huge fraser river king salmon was the biggest of 2016
42 pounds makes this a true ‘Hawg’.
It is one of the nicest looking Salmon we have seen come out of the Fraser River. It’s not a record for the Fraser River but it is our biggest of the season. It is however a trophy for this trio of anglers who travelled from Italy to fish in BC.
It was caught on September 28, 2016 on a ‘secret’ gravel bar of the Fraser not far from Chilliwack, British Columbia. We have fast and easy access to these gravel bars thanks to our jet boats that depart from Mission.

One Lucky Italian angler!
Andrea from Italy is proud to display his massive 42 pound Fraser River Chinook salmon he landed on the morning of September 28, 2016. Andrea and his 2 fishing buddies had travelled from Italy to experience some Fraser river Salmon Fishing and White Sturgeon Fishing on a 5 day Fraser River Fishing Package. They achieved their fishing goals and perhaps a bit more.

On the morning of September 28 we were bar fishing with spin-glows on one of the many gravel bars that line the Fraser river in the Chilliwack area. Rods were cast out with 18oz of lead to hold the spin-glos in the faster current where Chinook salmon travel. Bells are attached to the rods to warn patiently waiting anglers of a strike.

After less than 10 minutes of the spin-glo’s soaking in the river a bell is going off frantically and a rod is buckling over. Someone better grab it before it goes bye-bye into the drink! Andrea grabs it and sets the hook. The rod bends hard under the pressure from whatever is on the other end. Almost immediately the salmon is seen ripping along the surface creating a wake as it cuts out into the middle of the Fraser river. The big King then showed us how much power he really had. It hunkered down like a bull and held in the middle of the run for 15 minutes.
We were convinced that the gear was hung up on a snag
As hard as Andrea could pull nothing seemed to budge! Then it finally started to move. Over the next 10 minutes it was a stressful battle as each time we thought we had it close enough to net, it ripped 10-20 yards of line out. We were all anxiously hoping the hook would hold through this long battle. As each second passes the big Gamakatsu hook can work it’s way out with all the force of the head shakes. But fate was in our favour this day. The landing net in guides hand finally did its job and hollers of joy were ringing from the Italian group!
