July 8 – 11 Sturgeon Show Filming
We were approached several months ago by Kevin Hodgson and Kevin Peterson from ‘Feel The Rush TV’ about hosting them to film a BC Sturgeon fishing show. Needless to say we were more than happy to be involved in doing another TV show that involves giant Fraser River White Sturgeon!
As with all TV show filmings the goal and hope is to get a fish in the double digits, aka over 10 feet. This is no easy task but entirely possible. We are certainly prepared for any size fish that climbs onto our bait.

Fraser river conditions
July conditions on the Fraser River can be variable but generally quite decent overall. However we were well downstream of a rather serious weather event that upped the challenge quite a bit! Severe rain had swollen tributaries 500 km upstream. All that water and tons of debris was now in Mission, BC 3 days later.
From the News:
The B.C. River Forecast Centre says the Chilcotin River has peaked and floodwaters are receding after a flood event not likely to happen again for another 200 years. Read Article.
This forced us to change our tactics. Fortunately we were able to adjust due to our over 2 decades of experience on the Fraser.

Getting down to fishing!
July 8 is day 1 of fishing and filming. The crew arrived at the Mission boat launch at 7 AM and introductions were made. Gear was loaded on our 21 foot Customweld Storm jet boat. After some discussion about where and how we would be fishing we were all eager to get the lines in the water so we departed on our adventure.
Navigating through some heavy debris which consisted of plenty of pine trees and sticks from 500 km upstream in the BC interior we made it to our first location 15 minutes up river. This location looked good but the sub surface debris proved to be too heavy so after 20 minutes we had to move and look for more sheltered waters that would hold big fish.
We made a move down river and found respite from the debris. We also found aggressive Sturgeon that were all too happy to climb on to our bait!

Plenty of big Sturgeon!
Throughout the 4 days of fishing and filming we managed to hook up with big fish each day.
On day 3 a Sturgeon that could have been over 10 feet latched on to one of our baits. It started running down river at a freakishly quick speed forcing us to act quick and pull anchor so we could chase it. Unfortunately it spat the hook just as we started drifting down stream. Sadness was in the air for a few minutes.
