Coho Salmon fishing in the Fraser river valley
Coho Salmon fishing trips available from mid September to early November
Flyfishing for chrome Coho salmon or spin casting!
Silversides Fishing Adventures owner Brian Mack has been successfully fly fishing for Coho salmon and tying Coho salmon flies since the mid 90’s and has earned a reputation for being one of the best Coho salmon fishing guides in the area. Back in the 90’s we used to sell our home made Coho ‘killers’ from our residence in Mission, BC to fly fishers every day during peak Coho time.
A true sport fish of British Columbia, the Coho salmon has a legendary appeal for the outdoorsman! Coho salmon fishing is very popular in the Fraser River Valley and Vancouver area in the Fall. Coho fighting abilities often combine lots of airtime, twisting and long speedy runs making them just a bit tougher to land than many of the other species we have. Coho salmon are ranked very high for eating quality! Coho flesh is bright orange to red and very healthy.
Coho salmon are abundant in many of our local rivers like the Fraser, Harrison, Stave, Squamish and Vedder-Chilliwack. They return to our local rivers each fall from mid September right through to December. Peak times are typically from early October to early November. Average sizes for Coho salmon range from 5 to 10 lbs but fish near 20 lbs are encountered each year. Coho salmon will often stage in slower ‘frog’ water where they can be targeted by fly fishing or casting spinners or spoons. The best days for Coho salmon fishing are grey overcast or rainy days.
