April 12 Fly Fishing – When everything lines up!

April 12 Fly Fishing – When everything lines up!

Perfect conditions and a whole lot of tight lines! Steelhead green, overcast with a few showers is what we always hope for when we have clients on the river for Steelhead & Trout fly fihing. This is what you need to wish for. Please don’t wish for sunny skies and low clear water. I had the pleasure of guiding Ed from Washigton state for 2 days(April 11-12) of Steelhead & Bull Troutfly fishing on the Squamish river. Ed has been chucking flies for some time but doesn’t know our area too well so like many other wise people he hired a guide to give him the advantage. Ed stayed at […]

The little red Steelhead jig that could

The little red Steelhead jig that could

Steelhead love jigs Was out yesterday on the Vedder river in pursuit of a chrome Steelhead. My arsenal? A red jig and some finely cured prawns. The outcome was a silver bullet hooked into in the first 10 minutes. A beauty hen of about 10 lbs. Had 2 other float disappearances after that but no connection. A kind angler who had just got himself a beauty Steelhead 30 minutes earlier took plenty of photos for me. Steelhead season will be upon us until late April. Give us a shout if you want to book a  guided trip with a Steelhead expert.

In most cases Steelhead Green occurs after some high water and the river is dropping. It’s a stage between dirty & high and low & clear. Steelhead will be happy to enter a river when it’s high and dirty. There’s awesome cover and plenty of depth. […]

Preparing for Winter Steelhead Fishing

Preparing for Winter Steelhead Fishing

Winter Steelhead Fishing Prep Well, it’s been another great fishing season on the Fraser river and it’s tributaries in the Fraser Valley. The request for Fraser river charters drops off the map when it’s later November. Guides like us certainly enjoy some much needed relaxation and family time that was put on hold during the frenzy of work that happens from June to November. So fishing would seem like the last thing on our minds. Yeah right. Fishing is never absent from the perspective of a river addict. Uhm… lake and ocean addict too! The rivers are seemingly lifeless creatures, even graveyards as the most prominent sight is strewn salmon […]
