2017 Fraser River Salmon Forecast
Fraser River Pink Salmon – September 1 to 30
The world famous Fraser River which is 60 minutes east of Vancouver will see the return of the huge Pink Salmon run. This run only occurs every odd numbered year in September. Run sizes vary but typically you can expect 6 to 30 million Pinks returning. This provides exceptionally productive fishing! Pinks are very aggressive biters and are easily caught using lighter tackle which makes them suitable for all ages of anglers. Pinks range in size from 3 to 15 lbs but 4-6 lbs is very common. Our charter guests have hooked into as many as 50+ Pinks per trip for each angler. The bonus of the Pink return to the Fraser River is the ‘out of this world’ Sturgeon fishing that occurs at the same time(September). Sturgeon are feeding hard and there’s plenty of huge fish that can easily top 500 lbs and reach weights over 1,000 lbs each year.

Booking early for September Pink Salmon and Sturgeon fishing is highly recommended.
Fraser Valley Chum Salmon – October & November
2016 Chum Salmon returns to the Fraser River Valley were record breaking. 2.5 million Chums clogged all the rivers and streams in the area. Fishing was simply nuts! This was due to very good ocean conditions that should also bode well for the 2017 season. Predictions by DFO biologists are that we will see very high Chum Salmon returns in 2017! Chums are also very aggressive biters but unlike Pinks their size is much bigger. Average size for Chums is 12-15 lbs but we often see them top 20 lbs. Chums are rated as the hardest fighting salmon pound for pound. We often hear our clients complaining of sore arms after cranking in a few dozen Chums in a day’s outing. But it’s happy pain! Sturgeon love Chum salmon too and thus Sturgeon fishing is absolutely wicked in October to mid November.
Our Chum Salmon – Sturgeon fishing packages provide stunning fishing action. You won’t believe fishing can be this GOOD!

Chinook Salmon(July – early October): The glimmer of hope here is for mid to later summer/Fall stocks that look good. The other favorable factor that is currently trending is the very large abundance of herring along the South Coast of BC that Chinook rely on. Will we have a sport fish opening on the Fraser River in July or August for Chinook salmon? Perhaps, but we won’t know for sure until June I think. We had a opening in the summer of 2016 and it was good while it lasted so we are hopefull for 2017. Chinooks will range in size from 10 – 40 lbs. Fraser River conditions should be excellent this summer.
Subscribe to our Newsletter and get notified of openings so you can take advantage of good fishing on our guided trips.
Coho Salmon(October – mid November): Coho stocks are always hard to predict so there’s no telling what will happen. Regardless they are always available to catch and keep during the times of early October to mid November either by fly fishing or spin casting lures. We always recommend people to not book exclusively for Coho and leave options open for some Sturgeon fishing or Chum Salmon fishing.
2017 Squamish River Salmon Forecast
The Squamish River is just 50 minutes north of Vancouver and provides excellent shore fishing for Pink, Chum and some Coho Salmon. We provide guided fishing trips here for anglers to try fly fishing, float fishing or spin casting lures.
Squamish Pink Salmon – July 15 to August 31
July 24 update: Lots of Pinks are coming in!
Fantastic news for Squamish River Pink Salmon returns this past decade! Runs are at historic highs and the 2017 return has the potential to smash the record books! Catching Salmon here is like taking candy from a baby! The 2015 run was epic which was the parent generation of the 2017 fish. We only provide fly fishing trips for Pink Salmon here. It’s very easy even if you’re a beginner. Our guests routinely hook dozens per day and on several occasions in 2015 landed 100 Pinks per rod in a 8 hour trip! You won’t find better fly fishing for salmon anywhere. Squamish River scenery is gorgeous as the river is surrounded by rugged glacier capped mountains in the 7 – 8,000 foot range. Seeing a Black Bear searching for it’s next salmon meal is also common.
We provide day charters here or multi day packages with lodging.
Squamish Chum Salmon – October 7 to Nov 20
Predictions are looking good for Squamish River Chum Salmon for 2017. Chums along the entire South Coast of BC are doing well so we should see some nice fishing here. The great thing about Squamish River Chums is that you get to hook them right after they enter the river the same day. They are aggressive and powerful! This is a Salmon that knows how to fight. We target them by fly fishing or float fishing. Both are productive. This is a beauty of a river that should not be over looked.
Fish for a day or stay several in nearby riverside lodging that we can arrange for you.
