Fraser Chinooks are here! The Fraser river opened on Monday September 19th for Chinook and Chum salmon fishing. We were on the Fraser yesterday for some bar fishing in hopes to nail a Chinook or 2. The Fraser river visibility was about 2 feet which is nice enough to have success. Upon arriving we pounded the bar rod holders into the gravel at the edge of the river. Then with 20 oz of lead attached to the spin-glo rig they were cast out about 15 yards straight out into the current. Depth was about 8 feet. Fraser River Salmon Fishing OPENS September 19th, 2016 An unusually late opening that will not be repeated in 2017. Finally the Fraser river will be open to Salmon fishing on September 19th, 2016. Our highly dysfunctional Department of Fisheries and Oceans(DFO) has opened the Fraser to sportfishing for Chinook salmon and Chum salmon. A lack of salmon wasn’t really the issue here, but rather political bunglings and lack of leadership. The big run of Fall Chinooks can now be targetted on our Fraser river fishing charters!
